Railings
Pick a style. Get a price. From modern minimal to traditional ornamental — we build them all in our Kensington shop and install them ourselves.
Below are the railing styles we get asked about most. Pick one that's close to what you're picturing, request a quote, and we'll talk specifics — height, length, material, finish, install date.
Don't see exactly what you want? Scroll to the bottom. We can build any railing style from a sketch, a photo, or a King Metals part number.
Modern
Horizontal Bar
Clean horizontal lines. Maximum view, minimum interruption. Often paired with wood handrails.
Cable Wire
Stainless steel cable runs between posts. Almost invisible. Best for views and modern interiors.
Vertical Picket
Simple straight pickets, no ornament. The default for new construction and modern renovations.
Wood Handrail
Steel pickets capped with a warm wood handrail. The right move when you want metal strength but warmth where the hand lands.
Transitional
Square Picket w/ Newel Post
The classic post-and-picket setup. Solid newel posts at corners, square pickets between. The default for most homes built before 1990.
Twisted Bar Picket
Square bars with a graceful twist through the middle. A small detail that makes the whole railing feel intentional.
Picket w/ Finial Top
Square pickets capped with decorative finials — acorns, spears, or buttons. Period-appropriate for rowhouses, brownstones, and Victorians.
Round Bar Picket
Round bars instead of square. Softer, more residential read. Pairs well with curved staircases.
Ornate & Traditional
Spear
Top
Sharpened tips at the picket top. Equal parts security and ornament. The classic security-fence look.
Quatrefoil Pattern
Repeating four-lobed openwork between pickets. A Victorian-era pattern that still reads beautifully today.
Basket-style Picket
A small basket cage twisted into each picket. The hallmark Victorian ornamental look.
Scroll-top Decorative
Pickets capped with hand-curled scrolls. The most decorative option in the catalog — best for showpiece front entries.
